The evening is set in the year 1979 and it seems like any other evening at Studio Paradise. When the owner, Louis Savage, is found shot outside his office. APRIL SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN!
Our April school holidays were so much fun! We had so many families join us for our Messy Morning and S.T.E.A.M Activities.

'Chinese Dragon Puppet' was one of our more popular activities. Tables overflowed with coloured paper, feathers, glue, markers and tape. Amazing creative puppet creations were made, and it was a pleasure to see everyone's delight.

We also had lots of happy faces, creating enchanting fairy light jars! I am sure a lot of kids were excited to check out their fairy lights in the evening in the dark. Clear jars, cellophane & glow sticks were used. Silhouettes were supplied of different items fairy's, rabbits, mushrooms etc an assortment of craft items were used to decorate the jars.

The highlight for the school holiday program was of course the Giant Hovercraft. Cleverly made by Warrick & Stew from our library team. They used a leaf blower, plywood and poly tarp to make it. Kids took turns and were entertained having rides.

We are looking forward to the upcoming July school holiday term break. Make sure you come and see us at the library as well.

THE HELL READING CHALLENGE
THE HELL READING CHALLENGE | KIDS READ BOOKS & GET A FREE PIZZA!

Kia ora, we have the Hell Reading Challenge pizza wheels available in the library for tamariki. You will find them on display to easily take away or they are available at our front counter by asking our library staff.
Children complete a 'pizza wheel' by reading seven books. Then take your pizza wheel up to our library front counter and receive a Feilding library stamp. Children can then exchange their completed wheel for a free 333 kids’ pizza from any HELL store.

The New Zealand Book Awards Trust have teamed up again with HELL Pizza to encourage school-age children (years 1-8) to read more. Their reading programme runs through schools and libraries nationwide. There is no limit on the number of wheels a child can fill up between March and December 2023, provided they are stamped and authenticated by a library staff member. The child/student must redeem their pizza wheels IN PERSON and before the expiry date, which is 31 January 2024.

Each wheel will feature detailed rules and regulations, as well as a serial number that will be traced back to the Feilding library. We do this to ensure a high standard of conduct.

For more information, please visit the HELL Reading Challenge website.

MAY SPECIAL MENTIONS
BEFORE I SAW YOU
AUTHOR EMILY HOUGHTON

If you like JoJo Moyes 'Me before You, you would probably be a fan of this book too. Alfie has been in hospital while after an accident killed two of his friends meant that he also lost his leg.  Life is about as exciting as it gets when a new patient comes to the ward, and friendly outgoing Alfie is always keen to make a new friend. Curtains are tightly pulled around Alice, his new neighbour. She has 40% burns after an office fire and doesn't want anyone to see her. She hasn't even seen herself - yet. In breaking through the 'curtain' that Alice is wrapped up in, Alfie realizes that he hasn't fully dealt with his own trauma.
Alfie is a very likeable character, maybe edging on annoying at times because he's always there in full colour. But - he is probably who you'd want as a roomie if you were in hospital to lift your spirits. Yep, this a love story. The question lingers; Could you fall in love with someone who you have never seen?
(How could Alfie not even have the teeniest peek through the curtains?)
I actually enjoyed this book even though I am not much of a romance fan.
Thank you, Sue B.

LEMON TREE
DIRECTOR ERAN RIKLIS
GENRE, DRAMA

I would definitely recommend this movie because it focuses on one plausible incident that can occur between a high-ranking Israeli cabinet minister and his family who are neighbours to a lonely elderly Palestinian woman, who has owned a lemon tree orchard for over 60 years. It shows the ensuing legal drama, it's very well done.

Thank you Allan D.

THE PIGEON HAS TO GO TO SCHOOL!
WORDS AND PICTURES BY MO WILLEMS

This is a great book for adults to read with kids as it follows the topic of being nervous and anxious about going to school. The Pigeon in the story asks questions children would think about school themselves and the story has an overall positive message, while entertaining. I also would recommend the other Pigeon books by Mo Willems. We have others in the library covering great topics like "The pigeon needs a bath!" and "Don't let the pigeon stay up late!"

Thank you Katherine G.
This book was read to the students as Lytton Street school for their May book week.
