Russell Poole is a emeritus distinguished professor in the Department of English of The University of Western Ontario, Canada, having previously taught at Massey University, and has been elected to fellowships of the Royal Society of Canada and the Royal Society Te Apārangi. The author or numerous articles and books on medieval studies and other topics in language and literature, he served as editor of the interdisciplinary journal 'Viking and Medieval Scandinavia' from 2014 to 2018. Since 2017 he has been editor of the 'Manawatu Journal of History' and in 2018 he won the Palmerston North Heritage Trust 'Best Article' Award for his article 'Platinum Fever in the Fitzherbert Hills.
