New York 2140
by Kim Stanley Robinson
A new novel from the talented world builder Kim Stanley Robinson, writer of the Mars trilogy among other books. Here he posits a future suffering severe sea level rises due to global warming. His characters inhabit the intertidal, buildings in the partially flooded areas of New York who have managed to waterproof their tall buildings and continue living in them. Part slice of life, part mild post apocalyptic, part mystery and part discourse on society, government and high finance. This is a dense wide ranging book with some thought provoking ideas. Well worth a read for anyone who wants to envision what life may be like when we experience significant sea level rise in the future.
New York 2140 can be found in the General Fiction collection with a Science Fiction label (along with some other books he has written).
