by J D Vance
This is an excellent book written about the struggles of redneck America by someone who escaped the trend of so called hopelessness. An honest appraisal of family life in the rust belt and the hillbillies who live there.
The author comes from a typically dysfunctional family and it is his story of survival with all the quirky members of his extended family. Well worth a read, for a genuine insight into a part of American life most of us here in New Zealand only know through the stereotypes in popular entertainment.
The library has an ebook copy and the print book can be found in the General Fiction section.
