by Anna Mackenzie
Evie’s War is the fictional diary of a New Zealand girl who moves with her family to England in 1914.
Throughout the book there is plenty of war drama following the real battles and events of the Great War. Evie serves as a nurse and ambulance driver and experiences love, heartbreak and family struggles as they cope with WWI.
The book seems well written for fiction based on true events. It is a fairly easy read for anyone who doesn’t typically read ‘war stories’. The author, Anna Mackenzie, lives in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. She is very successful, her books earning many awards.
Overall, this book is very enjoyable, exciting and interesting, and seems historically accurate. I would rate it 8/10.
