Poetry Competition

What started as just a fun poem between Feilding Library workmates at the start of COVID19 lockdown, has turned into a successful public competition.

38 entries were received during Level 4 lockdown from all over the world. Our Manawatu and Tararua authors were joined with some from England, India and Pakistan.

Our Library Services Manager, Adie Johansen is delighted with the quality of entries. The judging panel, Mayor Helen Worboys, Local Poet Professor Chris Gallivan and Adie thoroughly enjoyed reading all the entries to find winners in each of the four categories – seniors, adults, youth and kids. Chris has also provided the most wonderful feedback on each individual poem that has been shared with the writers.

The winners are:

  • Lockdown by Eleanor (Kids)
  • Stuck in a Bubble by Leon Pinfold (Youth)
  • Back in My Day by Tamsyn Grant (Adults)
  • Food for Thought by Pam (Senior)

Each of the winners will receive vouchers to enjoy with local businesses after lockdown becomes a memory.

All the poem entries will be published in a book titled ‘Life through Lockdown’. These beautiful hardback books can be purchased through the Feilding Library for $40 each. A timeless keepsake from a time like no other in our lives.
